Media Interest Grows Around Going the Extra Mile
Granada TV's intrepid reporter Paul Crone dropped in at Sankey Leisure Centre ahead of Saturdays Scuba Challenge to interview DAD founder Dave Thompson MBE DL. Pauls report which was featured three times in Granada News the day before the event included an interview with Dave and underwater footage recorded by Terry Wood from Cheshire Scuba Academy. National Disability Awareness Day
Its official, Sunday 14th July has been recognised as the National Disability Awareness Day, says The Guardian newspaper. During an interview with DAD founder Dave Thompson MBE DL they confirmed that they will be running an eight page feature on Saturday 13th July.

Scuba Success, Possibly a World First
DAD founder Dave Thompson MBE DL led a team of over 30 people involved in this year's 'Going the Extra Mile' Scuba Challenge, successfully completing the 64 length dive in just under 2 hours. It has been suggested that Dave could have been the first disabled diver to complete a one mile dive on a Poseidon re-breather system. Together the team are set to raise over £6,000 towards this year's event. Visit YouTube to view a video of the event.

For the third year running The MESSAGE Institute based in Jaipur Rajasthan India are planning a Disability Awareness Day to coincide with our event, making the 14th July 'International DAD'.

DAD has extended its appeal to Cameroon in Central Africa. Closing the Gap, a user led disability organisation have expressed their interest in organising an event on Sunday 14th July, adding more evidence to our aim of creating an International Disability Awareness Day.

DAD has inspired another disability organisation to run a DAD style event. Wigan and Leigh Disability Partnership have announced their Independence Day will be held on Saturday 29th June at Pennington Flash Park, Leigh.

Scuba Challenge 2013
A SUPER scuba fundraising challenge took place at Great Sankey Leisure Centre on Saturday 27 April. The event proved to be a huge success and is set to raise over £5000 towards supporting Disability Awareness Day (DAD) on Sunday 14 July 2013. Event co-ordinator and founder of WDP Dave Thompson MBE DL successfully completed the underwater 64 length one mile challenge using a new rebreather system previously reserved for deep diving enthusiasts and military divers. Originally design for NASA space adventures the system provides safer diving with less risk of decompression sickness.

Sad Loss
Eddie Clements AKA Granddad DAD has sadly passed away. Eddie and his wife June who passed away last year had been involved in each event since 1993. Alan Martin, wheelchair dance artist, better known as 'Mouse on the Move' has also passed away. Alan has been a regular entertainer in our Arts Marquee. Eddie and Alan will be greatly missed.
